VERN’S TAVERN

Vern’s Tavern will open on Grove Avenue in Spring 2021.

* As of March 24 Vern’s Tavern is Open * The new Vern’s Tavern opening at 76 S. Grove Avenue is the vision of longtime Elginite Jamie Berry. Jamie was born and raised in Elgin as were her parents, and today almost her entire family lives on the same block! She says “Elgin will always be home and is very dear to me. I wanted to create something that Elgin can be proud of. That my family will be proud of and my community can enjoy.” The name Vern’s Tavern comes from Jamie’s Grandpa, Papa Vern.

Near the end of March, Vern’s Tavern will open with a private family celebration followed by a public event to showcase the beautifully designed space to the entire community. Visitors will be impressed with the high-end interior touches specifically chosen to create a vibe that’s 1920s tavern meets neighborhood dive bar. A rich color palate sets the stage where you can spend time among friends enjoying specialty crafted cocktails. Unique decor including tufted benches, repurposed church pews, romantic light fixtures and a hand-poured bar top combine to bring the entire 1920s vibe full circle.

The tavern will specialize in cocktails crafted with family in mind. Each cocktail will be named after things Jamie’s Grandpa (Papa Vern) used to say. “It’s an honor to share with the world the values, and love that he showed our family.” adds Jamie. They’ll all have a fun back story and are beautifully blended to create rich flavor profiles allowing for unique serving styles.

A fun Tiki style drink list will also be available with spins on classic Tiki recipes and as well as a full “mocktail” menu or what they’ll call the “0° Cocktail Menu” complete with non-alcoholic beers and CBD infused beverages.

Jamie says she’s been bartending since she turned 21 and loves it. Her goal with Vern’s Tavern is to create a space that is safe, fun and entertaining, where people can create special memories and sharable moments. “Family and community has always been a huge part of my life. I’ve helped other people open their own bars and restaurants, and I really wanted to make one of my own.” says Jamie.  For years Jamie has been friends with local Downtown Elgin Property Owner Andrew Cuming. He happened to have an ideal space that would allow for Jamie to create the tavern of her dreams.  “I can say that without his push and determination, I wouldn’t be where I am today. He’s helped make my dream come true.”
