NeighborWorks Day 2018
NeighborWorks Day is a time when volunteers, business people, neighbors, friends and local government leaders mobilize neighborhood change and block by block revitalization. Hosted for many years in our community by NHS of the Fox Valley who closed their doors last fall, the DNA has picked up the torch and adopted the project, giving it a renewed mission. Our goal is to utilize this annual project to reach out into the neighborhoods surrounding our downtown, positively impact maintenance conditions for mutual benefit and build relationships in our community beyond the boundaries of Downtown.
This year the DNA partners with our neighbors to the east, the Gifford Park Association as well as Elgin Community Network and the City of Elgin to focus on 11 properties in highly visible areas of the Gifford Park Neighborhood along Villa, E Chicago Street and more. Examples of projects include repairing and removing broken fences, landscaping overhauls and painting porches.
ATTENTION VOLUNTEERS: Meet at Gifford Park on Chapel Street between 8am-9am on the 16th to sign a waiver, pick up a free T-Shirt and receive instructions before heading to your work site. Enjoy breakfast courtesy of Downtown Elgin Dream Hall at 51 and lunch courtesy of the Downtown Elgin Jimmy John’s. All necessary project equipment will be provided.
We have a big job to do here in Elgin making our City the best it can be and we are going to need your help to do it! Please join us and make a friend by helping a neighbor!
