Elgin Farmers Market Returns to Downtown for the 2020 Season
The Downtown Elgin Farmers Market celebrates 20 Years for its 2020 season beginning on Friday, June 12th. New this year the market will take place on Spring Street just south of Chicago Street. The change in location was made for more street space which allows vendors and shoppers extra room to adhere to social distancing guidelines in place due to Covid-19. Hours for the market will be from 3pm to 7pm every Friday through October 2nd.
Many of last year’s vendors will be returning and will continue to offer fresh products including fruits, vegetables, eggs, fresh meat, breads, honey and more. Baked goods, sweets, pet products and body care will also be available. As Covid-19 guidelines evolve, other items may become available such as handmade crafts, art and jewelry. Free parking is available throughout Downtown Elgin, within nearby parking garages on Chicago Street and Fulton Street. The public should be aware that through traffic along Spring Street between Chicago Street and Fulton Street is closed during market hours, starting at 1:00pm and will reopen at 8:00pm.
“I am excited to be bringing the market back for the 2020 season as we are considered an Essential Business,” says Elgin Farmers Market Manager Christina Gonzales, “We have gone to great lengths to create Covid-19 safety guidelines for our vendors and shoppers to ensure a safe experience. Masks will be required and hand sanitizer stations will be positioned throughout the market. Our new location on Spring Street gives us more space to adhere to social distancing guidelines as the market continues to grow. With limited public activities happening around town we’re anticipating a busy market season.” Gonzales also serves as the Events and Promotions Coordinator for the Downtown Neighborhood Association of Elgin, who have hosted the Farmers Market in Elgin since 2000.
New vendors are welcome to participate in the market and are encouraged to contact the Downtown Neighborhood Association of Elgin office at 847-488-1456.
