About Us

The Gail Borden Public Library is located directly north of Ki mball Street on the Fox River. The impressive facility stands as an impressive building to view, day or night, from its location at one of the major gateways to the revitalized Downtown Elgin. Designed to blend with both the old and the new architecture of the area, the Prairie School-inspired exterior of the Gail Borden Public Library creates a striking image from all directions.

The main Downtown Elgin branch is the third largest public library building in Illinois, after Chicago and Schaumburg. The library has won numerous awards including being cecipient of the 2009 National Medalfor Museum and Library Services.

The Gail Borden Public Library District offers online access to books, movies, music, digital media, and subscription-based databases to all valid library card holders.
