ELGIN BOOKS & COFFEE

Elgin Books & Coffee has been a staple of Downtown Elgin since opening in 2005. Owners Gloria Theofanis and Herminda Spencer have weathered the ups and downs of bookstore ownership at a time when big-box stores almost took over the market and Downtown Elgin was undergoing extensive infrastructure improvement projects. Fast forward 14 years later and they’re still going strong as the only independent bookstore in Downtown Elgin, plus they serve coffee!

Enjoy a good book and a great hot chocolate!

Relax with a Coffee or Espresso

The best way to really appreciate a good book is with a good cup of coffee, or a hot chocolate! Elgin Books also offers a variety of seasonal coffee flavors and espresso plus a selection of muffins, scones, cookies, candy and convenience snacks. Once you’ve picked a few books you can sit back and relax for a bit in their cozy café area situated inside their sunny storefront windows along Grove Avenue. In the warmer months their back patio is another great spot to read overlooking the Fox River.

Elgin Books & Coffee is a great destination for book lovers and it’s also the perfect store to shop for gifts. No matter who you’re shopping for you will absolutely find the perfect book. Gloria commented, “We are a one-stop-shop. You could literally do all of your shopping here because we have something for everyone.” It’s true! With some 60,000 books to choose from you could optimize your shopping time for birthdays and holidays, for co-workers and friends, for teachers and party hosts! Plus, by shopping in a locally-owned business you’re supporting your community. Statistics show that for every $100 spent in a local business, $68 of that stays in the local economy.

At Elgin Books you can shop in the store or shop their store online through Amazon. Their selection is so vast and unique they’ve shipped special titles as far away as Sweden and Puerto Rico! “Some of our books are so unique you’ll never see them again.” added Gloria.
