Small Business Saturday in downtown Elgin 11.28.15

sbs 1128Small Business Saturday (SBS), is right around the corner! Every year, this American shopping holiday is held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving during one of the busiest shopping periods of the year. First observed on November 27, 2010, it is a counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which feature big box retail and e-commerce stores respectively. However, SBS focuses on the local shopkeepers and all that they have to offer!

This year, Small Business Saturday takes place on Saturday, November 28. Be sure to visit downtown Elgin businesses that offer the quality and selection that the big box stores can’t. Downtown restaurants offer the flavors and atmosphere that only an individual restaurant can offer. Be sure to shop local on Small Business Saturday, and always!

2013 Small Business Saturday was a Success!

circle sbsPlease continue to show your support to local shops, businesses and restaurants by always shopping local!

When you spend money in downtown Elgin, those dollars spent at the locally-owned businesses have three times the impact on your community as dollars spent at national chains. When shopping locally, you simultaneously create jobs, fund more city services through sales tax, invest in neighborhood improvement and promote community development…all that with just a simple purchase!

Also, business owners – please let us know if you have specials, events, or just some good to news to share so we can help drive consumers to your business.

“We ♥ Downtown Elgin” Buy Local Campaign Launches

WeHeartDowntownThe Downtown Neighborhood Association is marking 15 years of service to the Downtown Elgin community in 2013. To celebrate, the DNA is rolling out its new “We ♥ Downtown Elgin” Buy Local campaign this February.

“The campaign is designed to not only encourage shoppers to patronize our downtown shops, restaurants and services by telling their uniquely Elgin stories but also to educate consumers on the value of supporting the small business community by keeping their dollars local wherever they shop,” said DNA Managing Director Jason Pawlowski.

The “We ♥ Downtown Elgin” campaign will include a Buy Local store signage and streetpole banner branding campaign, a new, full color downtown Elgin print directory, informational kiosks in various downtown public places with menus, flyers and posters, and a brand new We Heart Downtown Elgin website featuring an interactive downtown map, video featurettes, small business information and resources, weekly restaurant/bar and retail promotions, coupons and much more! Stay tuned throughout the year for more details!
