Small Business Saturday in downtown Elgin 11.28.15

sbs 1128Small Business Saturday (SBS), is right around the corner! Every year, this American shopping holiday is held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving during one of the busiest shopping periods of the year. First observed on November 27, 2010, it is a counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which feature big box retail and e-commerce stores respectively. However, SBS focuses on the local shopkeepers and all that they have to offer!

This year, Small Business Saturday takes place on Saturday, November 28. Be sure to visit downtown Elgin businesses that offer the quality and selection that the big box stores can’t. Downtown restaurants offer the flavors and atmosphere that only an individual restaurant can offer. Be sure to shop local on Small Business Saturday, and always!

SPaceTaSTe GaLLeRy is “Anything but Boring”!  Browse this unique shop and you are sure to find a unique gift for yourself or a family member or a friend. The inventory is always changing with exciting products, artists & events to fill this SPACE with great TASTE. Stop in & say, “Hi”, and tell Tim, the owner, that the DNA sent you!

1. Show up at SPaceTaSTe GaLLeRy, 215 E. Chicago, Elgin, IL 60120,  5-6 pm on Thursday, September 18th.

2. Invite all of your friends via social media, word of mouth, Pony Express, Morse code…whatever!

3. All participating Cash “Mobsters” agree to spend a minimum of $20 at SPaceTaSTe GaLLeRy…$20 for a unique gift for yourself (you deserve it!) or even a friend, will go a long way!

Downtown Elgin Cash Mob at Elgin Books This Thursday 6/13

Elgin_BooksThe DNA invites avid readers and coffee drinkers to join the mob in Downtown Elgin. Our next Downtown Cash Mob takes place this Thursday, June 13 from 4-6 pm at Elgin Books, 66 S. Grove.

Participating Cash Mobsters agree to spend a minimum of $10 between 4-6 pm that day. Following the Cash Mob they will then be entered into a subsequent raffle drawing for $10 in Downtown Elgin Gift Certificates. There will be a total of two gift certificate drawings.

Interested readers will also have access to information about the Gail Borden Public Library’s “Read on the Wild Side” summer reading program.

Our first Downtown Cash Mob in April at Elgin Knit Works, 8 Douglas Avenue, and Soulful Sparrow, 10 Douglas Avenue, had over $400 in economic impact on those two businesses.

“Yarn and Soul” Downtown Elgin Cash Mob

Yarn&SoulTo help launch the Downtown Neighborhood Association’s “We ♥ Downtown Elgin” Buy Local campaign, the DNA will debut its first monthly Downtown Cash Mob entitled “Yarn and Soul” at Elgin Knit Works, 8 Douglas Avenue and Soulful Sparrow, 10 Douglas Avenue.

How does a cash mob work? Easy!

1. Show up between 5-6 pm on Thursday, April 25.

2. Invite all of your friends via social media, word of mouth, Pony Express…whatever!

3. All participating Cash “Mobsters” agree to spend a minimum of $20 at either host business (or $10 at both businesses). Mobsters will then receive an entry into a drawing for $20 in Downtown Elgin Gift Certificates! Winner to be announced in May.

Come join the mob in downtown Elgin every month throughout the spring and summer.

Want to see how a cash mob works first hand in Elgin? The Elgin Young Professionals Network will host a cash mob at State Street Market, 701 N. State Street in Elgin on Saturday, April 20 between 10am-5pm.

Last year the EYPN hosted very successful cash mobs at Elgin Books and SpaceTaste Gallery in downtown Elgin. The DNA is hopeful to partner with the EYPN on future cash mobs as well.
