Downtown vs. Crosstown Championship Finale Begins Tomorrow

3-15_DailyHeraldAd_FinalFour rounds in the books, nearly 8,000 votes cast, 30 “teams” sent packing and after all the dust has cleared only two Downtown Madness eateries remain standing in the battle for Elgin epicurean supremacy. The Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA) of Elgin’s Downtown Madness Championship Round Match-up features 2012 defending champion Danny’s Pizza on Douglas, 231 Douglas Avenue, and their Sausage Pizza representing Downtown Elgin versus Paul’s Family Restaurant, 1300 Lawrence Avenue, and their Paninis representing “Crosstown” Elgin.

This is a rematch of last year’s National Semifinal when Danny’s Pizza competed in the “Crosstown” bracket in their former location on McLean Blvd before opening in downtown Elgin in October 2012.   Championship Round Voting begins Friday, April 5 at 5pm and concludes Monday, April 8 at Noon, again with TWO WAYS TO PLAY TO MAKE YOUR VOTE PAY:

1. VOTE by choosing the Champion at www.DowntownElgin.com

2. VOTE AGAIN by “liking” the DNA Facebook Page then “liking” either the Danny’s Pizza or Paul’s “YOU CHOOSE THE CHAMPION” photo on Facebook

The Championship Round online voting form and Facebook “YOU CHOOSE THE CHAMPION” photos will all be posted online on April 5 at 5pm.

Votes from the online voting form and “likes” from the Facebook photo “like” contest will be combined. The winner will be awarded the 2013 Downtown Madness Championship Trophy on Monday, April 8 at Danny’s Pizza on Douglas, 231 Douglas Avenue, beginning with the DNA and Elgin Area Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Madness #TasteNTweet at 4:30pm followed by the trophy presentation at 6pm.

MADNESS #TASTENTWEET

tnt_logo#TasteNTweet (or #TNT) combines the best elements of the social mixer blended with just the right amount of social media engagement into a dynamite evening of tasting, tweeting and talking. Admission is FREE. Participants are asked to bring their laptop or smartphones with to play along using hashtag #TasteNTweet. This is also the last weekend for voters to pick up Elgin Eat 16 punch cards at any of the 32 participating Downtown Madness eateries and obtain punches for trying the various “signature dishes”. 8 punches nets you a Downtown Madness mini basketball. 16 punches = a trip to the foul line for your shot at big prizes at the Downtown Madness Trophy Presentation on April 8.

DNA’s Downtown Madness Begins March 14

Join the MadnessThe Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA) of Elgin’s third annual edition of Downtown Madness – the DNA’s award-winning, month-long, social media driven restaurant and bar promotion returns this March. “Signature dishes” from Elgin area eateries and pubs – both downtown and “crosstown” – will again face off against one other in a March Madness-style bracket tournament where the public chooses the winners round-by-round until a champion is crowned.

The 2013 installment of Downtown Madness: Downtown vs. Crosstown is expanding this year from 16 participating “teams” to a total of 32: 16 Downtown Elgin eateries vs. 16 Crosstown Elgin eateries. Beginning March 14, Downtown and Crosstown bracket entries compete against each other through four rounds of online voting before one finalists each from both sides of the bracket square off in the Championship Round of voting which ends on April 8, the night of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament’s championship game. The winner receives the honor of displaying the Downtown Madness traveling trophy for one year as well as a Blue Level Sponsorship in the 2013 City of Elgin 4th of July Parade.

Eat16_TicketThe Elgin Eat 16 punch card promotion also returns with some new surprises. Throughout the duration of Downtown Madness, voters can pick up Elgin Eat 16 punch card tickets and obtain punches for trying the various “signature dishes” at each participating restaurant. Prizes such as Downtown Elgin gift certificates, Downtown Madness t-shirts and mini basketballs are among the prizes available upon achieving various quantities of Eat 16 punches.

“We’re definitely excited about the changes we’ve made to this year’s Downtown Madness,” said DNA Managing Director Jason Pawlowski. “We know Madness and the Eat 16 punch cards both have an established track record of success for our participating Elgin establishments and we’re hoping for an even more competitive voting atmosphere and more rings at the registers for our businesses over the course of the month-long promotion.”

Last year’s Downtown Madness champion Danny’s Pizza returns to defend their title, competing this year as Danny’s Pizza on Douglas in the Downtown side of the bracket after relocating from 302 McLean Boulevard to 231 Douglas Avenue in downtown Elgin in October 2012.
