Busker Guidelines for Elgin, IL

buskerELGIN BUSKING GUIDELINES

Downtown Elgin welcomes buskers to perform in and about town.  We just ask that you follow some simple guidelines.

What is Busking?
A busker is considered to be an entertainer who is actively providing a public performance in the public space in exchange for a donation. Busking is defined as playing a musical instrument, singing, reciting or performing conjuring, juggling, puppetry, miming, dancing or other entertainment. Busking also includes the activity of drawing any message, picture or representation on a pavement, paper or canvas surface.

ELGIN BUSKING GUIDELINES provide a framework to assist performers, businesses and residents in understanding the rules for busking. The aim is to foster an environment that encourages and enables a range of busking performances to thrive in our city. After reading the guidelines, if you have more questions, please contact the City of Elgin’s 311 or the DNA at info@DowntownElgin.com or 847-488-1456.

  • Over the years we have made great accomplishments, here is just a sampling:
*The DNA’s Design Committee achieved recognition for Downtown Elgin on the National Register for Historic Places, creating a popular Walking Tour of Historical Downtown Elgin. We worked with community partners such as the Elgin History MuseumGail Borden Public Library and individual community volunteers to accomplish this goal.
*The DNA hosted the “Downtown Elgin Real Estate Tour”, which attracted new businesses, realtors and developers to Elgin’s central business district.
*The DNA brought thousands of visitors to Downtown Elgin through special events, such as the Downtown Elgin Pub Crawl, Winter Wonderland, Small Business Saturday, First Friday’s, the Harvest Market and more.
*The DNA Board and Staff has established relationships with both Elgin Academy and Judson University to create new and exciting opportunities for our downtown stakeholders.
*On behalf of the City of Elgin, we guided numerous new business owners on opening a business in Downtown Elgin. In addition, we work with investors and property owners on redevelopment in Elgin’s central business district.

The above is only a fraction of what we have accomplished, but we cannot carry out our mission without the generous support of our Members. Thank you, in advance, for supporting your Downtown via the DNA.
