Upcoming Downtown Elgin Property Owners Meetings

Downtown Elgin Property Owners Meeting

All downtown Elgin Property Owners are invited to attend these regularly scheduled meetings that are customized just for you! The group discusses topics that are specific to property owners in Elgin’s central business district. At every meeting, updates are given on the potential for a Special Service Area (SSA) for downtown Elgin.

A Special Service Area (SSA), also known as a Business Improvement District or BIDs, are districts that fund expanded services and programs through a localized property tax levy on the properties within contiguous areas. The enhanced services and programs are in addition to those currently being provided through the City of Elgin. The DNA has been working diligently to establish an SSA in downtown Elgin to provide special services that the City does not currently provide, but are wanted by property owners. Those services are being narrowed down by property owners at the Downtown Elgin Property Owners Meetings.

Small Business Saturday in downtown Elgin 11.28.15

sbs 1128Small Business Saturday (SBS), is right around the corner! Every year, this American shopping holiday is held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving during one of the busiest shopping periods of the year. First observed on November 27, 2010, it is a counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which feature big box retail and e-commerce stores respectively. However, SBS focuses on the local shopkeepers and all that they have to offer!

This year, Small Business Saturday takes place on Saturday, November 28. Be sure to visit downtown Elgin businesses that offer the quality and selection that the big box stores can’t. Downtown restaurants offer the flavors and atmosphere that only an individual restaurant can offer. Be sure to shop local on Small Business Saturday, and always!

Busker Guidelines for Elgin, IL

buskerELGIN BUSKING GUIDELINES – 2016

Downtown Elgin welcomes buskers to perform in and about town.  We just ask that you follow some simple guidelines.

What is Busking?
A busker is considered to be an entertainer who is actively providing a public performance in the public space in exchange for a donation. Busking is defined as playing a musical instrument, singing, reciting or performing conjuring, juggling, puppetry, miming, dancing or other entertainment. Busking also includes the activity of drawing any message, picture or representation on a pavement, paper or canvas surface.

ELGIN BUSKING GUIDELINES provides a framework to assist performers, businesses and residents in understanding the rules for busking. The aim is to foster an environment that encourages and enables a range of busking performances to thrive in our city. After reading the guidelines, if you have more questions, please contact the City of Elgin’s 311 or the DNA at info@DowntownElgin.com or 847-488-1456.
