The City of Elgin and the Downtown Neighborhood Association invite you to join us in celebrating our community in the 2009 Fourth of July Parade presented by the 2008 World Champion Chicago Bandits! The Elgin parade is quickly becoming one of the best in the ‘burbs. We hope you will join us for the parade and make plans to stay downtown after to enjoy festivities at many of our downtown restaurants!
The parade steps off at 9am at Douglas & Slade Avenue, one block west of Sherman Hospital, and ends in downtown at Douglas & Highland Avenue. It runs approximately 2.5 hours. You may bring lawn chairs to sit anywhere along the curbline of the parade route. Please keep your children safe - do not allow them to run into the street to grab candy.
Here is the day's schedule at a glance:
9AM - Parade steps off at Douglas & Slade. The national anthem will be performed by St. John's Lutheran Church Choir at the starting line, and will also be performed by singing duo called Small Potatoes down by City Hall.
11:30AM - Parade ends at Douglas & Slade. Small Potatoes will perform patriotic music on a small stage in front of City Hall for about an hour.
Noon-Midnight - Mad Maggies at 51 S. Grove Avenue and Douglas Street Sports Bar & Grill at 231 Douglas Avenue will have small festivals following the parade, including live music, a beer garden, food, kids games and more. All downtown restaurants will be open and offering lunch and dinner specials. Click here for a list of downtown restaurants >
We encourage you to park in the downtown area in one of our many free garages and surface lots to avoid congestion in the neighborhood. Click here for a downtown parking map >
