Honoring Our Volunteers: DNA Economic Development Committee

Volunteer_HeartIn honor of National Volunteer Week, the Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA) of Elgin would like to recognize our volunteers who have been at the very heart of DNA’s downtown revitalization efforts for more than 15 years.

Today we are recognizing the members of our DNA Economic Development Committee.

Under the direction of Economic Development Director Don Obenauf, the Economic Development Committee discusses plans to strengthen our downtown community’s existing economic assets while diversifying its economic base. This is accomplished by retaining and expanding successful businesses to provide a balanced commercial mix, sharpening the competitiveness and merchandising skills or business owners, and attracting new businesses that the market can support. Working with our downtown property owners and managers on converting unused or underused commercial space into economically producitve property also helps boost the profitability of the Central Business District. The committee’s goal is to build a downtown that responds to the needs of today’s consumers, ensuring the success of our existing businesses and growing the district’s economic base with additional customers and new, sustainable businesses.

Among the projects the Economic Development Committee are currently working on include developing an ongoing series of broker tours of available spaces in downtown Elgin and streamlining processes for City assistance programs such as the projecting sign and facade rehabilitation grants.
